Hour of Code® Workshops
What is Hour of Code?
We live in a world surrounded by technology. Whatever field our children choose to go into as adults, their ability to succeed will increasingly hinge on understanding how technology works. Sponsored by code.org and Computer Science Education Week, the Hour of Code® is a first step in addressing the need for computer science education. The event aims to give children their first taste of coding via engaging tutorials. They get to think, create, and have a blast — all while learning some computer programming.
EVComputing has been a proud participant in Hour of Code ® since 2014. In the first year, we conducted over 20 free workshops from November 2014 to January 2015 that had about 60 children exploring topics such as Python, Mobile App Development, Raspberry Pi Programming, LEGO Robotics programming, and the hands-down favorite – Minecraft Programming with Python. We followed that up with workshops in December 2015 where we had more children come in and explore Raspberry Pi programming.
These Hour of Code workshops are free, and provide a great opportunity for the child to explore programming and for the parent to gauge child’s current interest in it.
