1:1 PROGRAMMING CLASSES

EVComputing is now offering in-person 1:1 programming classes at EVComputing. These are suitable for students who have schedule conflicts with the group classes or who want to learn programming in a 1:1 class.

How it works:

Each class is an hour long, once a week, at the same time every week. The parent and student choose the weekly class time from the available time slots, and sign up via PayPal. You are welcome to sign up for more than one 1-1 class per week, but this is discouraged. A lot of learning takes place when the student works on concepts and exercises during the week between classes.

In the class, we learn new concepts, work on example programs, and the student gets started on homework assignments. All the content will be posted online at schoology.com. The student attempts the programming homework at home and seeks help from instructor by schoology message as needed.

More Information

  1. The cost is $300 for one month (4 classes of one hour each) of 1:1 programming classes. $375 for one month with 5 classes. If starting mid-month, the cost is pro-rated. The cost includes unlimited help via email between  classes.
  2. Payment via PayPal is due on or before the first of the month.
  3. Make-up classes: There are no make-up classes and there is no rescheduling of a class. A missed class cannot be carried forward to the next month. Please note that the make-up class policies  for 1-1 classes and group classes are not the same.
  4. Class missed  by student: If student has to miss the entire hour of one or more classes for any reason, 50% of the cost of each missed class is refunded via PayPal one day after the missed class. 50% of the cost of the missed class(es) is not refundable. Advance notice of student missing class is appreciated but not required. There is no refund if the student misses part of a class, joins late or leaves early.
  5. Class canceled by instructor: If instructor has to cancel a class, the full cost of the class will be refunded via PayPal on the day of the missed class. Parent will be notified by email or phone as much in advance as possible. Such cancellation is rare — the instructor has not cancelled a 1-1 class in the past 8 years.
  6. Curriculum: The default content of the Python and Java 1-1 class follows the group classes curriculum and sequence as described in these pages:
    Python Programming, Java Programming
Requests for modifying the course content will be honored.  A minimum notice of 24 hours before the next 1-1 class is required so the lesson plans can be updated.

You are welcome to sign up for more than one 1-1 class per week, but this is discouraged. A lot of learning takes place when the student works on concepts and exercises during the week between classes.
