This is a volunteer opportunity for students in 8th or 9th grade in the 2019-2020 academic year.

Prior programming experience in Python, Java or Scratch is a plus. Volunteering is more fun if you do it with friends; spread the word.

  • Training will be provided on three days in February, March and April 2020.
  • The child will need an adult who is available from 3:30-6:00 pm to drive the child to a library 5-20 miles from the Evergreen area.
  • The adult will stay on site the during the training.

Training Days

  • Friday February 14, 2020
  • Friday March 13, 2020
  • Wednesday April 22, 2020.

Time commitment by child and adult:

3:30 – 6:00 pm (all the three days listed).
Includes driving time.

If the children are friends, one adult can drive them and stay on site.

How to Apply

Interested student volunteers should send an email to volunteer@evcomputing.com that includes:

  • A resume with a description of your background, skills including any programming skills, and why you want to volunteer.
  • List the 3 training dates and confirm that you can attend all 3 days, and have an adult who can drive you and stay on site.
  • Copy (cc) your parent or guardian in all emails. Or your email will be deleted without a response.

In the resume, take the time to describe yourself and showcase your skills, why you are applying, what you hope to learn, and what you will bring to the volunteer team. If you don’t have a resume yet, now is a good time to create one. Google is your friend for resume templates. If you have attended a class, camp or workshop at EVComputing, mention the date and which one in your email.

Volunteers only; parents, please do not contact us on behalf of your child but do remind your child to cc you in every email.

After the Training

After  completing the three days of training, selected volunteers will start to teach coding independently or in pairs at libraries 5-20 miles from Evergreen. Days will be the first or second Friday of each month, 3:30-6:00 pm (including driving time).
